After a surgery it can be a long road to recovery. Whatever type of surgery you have it can take anywhere from weeks to months to get back to your normal self. Well food can have an impact on how you recover, so on top of what your doctors orders are you can try to eat the right foods to make your healing process as easy as possible.
First off, focus on eating Whole Foods. Whole foods are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and anything that is as least processed as possible. Processed foods are going to containmuch higher amounts of fat, sugar, salt and chemical additives. They will also contain far less, nutrients that are needed to for a body to heal.
Fresh fruits and Veggies! Increasing your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables will provide you with the most amount of vitamins and minerals, which are greatly needed for the body to heal.
Increase your Fibre! Fibre helps keep the colon healthy by scrubbing the walls and promoting elimination. This is important because constipation can be common after surgery.
Some Amino Acids can promote wound healing, so increase amounts of fish, chicken, eggs , brown rice, walnuts, almonds, and sunflower seeds!
Stay hydrated. . The amount of water we drink is as important as the food we consume.Try to drink eight glasses of water a day. Also, watch your caffeine consumption. Too much caffeine and not enough water can add to dehydration.
Vitamin C and Zinc can promote healing so supplementing (if your doctor recommends) or eating foods high in these nutrients can be beneficial. Zinc is found in fish, whole grains, chicken and Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits and dark leafy greens.
Get lots of rest! Sleep gives your body the time it needs to repair itself. And as you start to heal and feel as though you can get back into your normal routine, remember to take it slow. Pace yourself and take small breaks!!
