Yesterday was HOT! Today is even HOTTER! I am definitely enjoying these beautiful days, I am writing this article on my back porch as we speak. What do you do to cool down? I saw a commercial last night for the advertising of 1$ cokes to stay cool on these hot days. How nice of them. That’s exactly what I need, a big fat sugary coke to cool down. I guess it works for some people. But not really actually, on these hot days it is really important for us all to stay hydrated. Having a coke is only doing the opposite because of all the sugar it contains. In these hot months, children, elderly, athletes and outdoor workers are the ones most at risk for heat exhaustion. Please, please, please make sure you are drinking enough water. We talk about 8 – 10 glasses being the go to number and this is a great guideline. This isn’t a joke, this water thing we keep forcing on all of you. Our body relies on us to replenish what it uses. Take the summer months into consideration and increase your water intake. We know it can get boring, so try to reach for drinks with less sugar content as an alternative. No, this does not mean a diet drink, but I am not going to get on the aspartame train today.
I too would love to be able to turn to a relatively healthy drink that isn’t water all the time. So, I made up a big pitcher of Iced Green Tea yesterday and today is Oolong White Peach Tea. This does the trick. No recipe needed really but I will let you in on it just in case.
Brew a pot of your favourite tea
Pour it into a glass/porcelain pitcher or porcelain/glass bowl to cool down (heat on plastic can leach toxins into the drink)
Once the tea is just warm put it into the fridge
You can add fresh squeezed lemon or lime. Raspberries or blueberries… or peaches to mix it up (fruit is always good for you)
Once cooled in the fridge – add to your favourite glass with iced and viola!
**Add some honey or a teaspoon of cane sugar if you need it sweetened
A little bit of your favourite music can get always help too!
